For those who missed Karachi Eat Festival last night and the numerous tragic tragedies that occurred, the hashtag “Karachi Eat” has been trending since this morning.
“When we were going to Karachi Eat Festival inside everything was okay but when I walked out to grab my friends it was massive chaos people were jumping through the walls and a huge amount of people breached in, it was very scary,” eyewitnesses of the festival that took place at Beach View Park recalled. Someone reported numerous incidences of harassment.
A second commenter said: “A gang of literally 8 Afghan males was standing alongside us.” Initially, I assumed they were a random group, but I had a bad feeling about them. I then told my friend to get a shopper and told my daughter and me to leave as I stood there with the leftover food. I practically had everyone come and sit next to me while I shouted “Kia masla hai” and attempted to take the food away from my hands. When I gave one of them a slap on the back, they all immediately fled.
On Twitter, similar accounts from the same night also appeared. “Made it out thank goodness,” a user said. The female participant continued, “Men were harassing women outside the venue by attempting to enter and enter. The police were attempting to keep them under control when all of a sudden the lights went out and they started hooting maniacally. To get to my car securely, I had to climb out of a wall that was damaged.”
