GREATER NOIDA: SAIC Motor of China’s MG Motor India 2023 stated during the nation’s biannual car show on Wednesday that it anticipates at least a quarter of its sales in India to be electric vehicles (EV) by 2023.

Rajeev Chaba, the company’s managing director, predicted that by the end of the year, 25 to 30% of all of its sales will be electric. He also added that the company is considering whether to introduce the MG4 electric hatchback and eHS plug-in hybrid SUV in India.

MG Motor sells the ZS EV SUV. They barely have more than 1% of the Indian passenger vehicle market. SAIC Motor earlier stated that MG might choose from a variety of new energy vehicles (NEVs), including electric, hybrid, and fuel cell cars, to sell in India.

According to Reuters, MG Motor is to raise money to expand its Indian electric mobility sector as New Delhi scrutinizes Chinese investments more closely.

After a conflict between soldiers from the two nations in 2020 on their disputed Himalayan frontier, New Delhi has moved to restrict investments from Beijing. MG entered India in 2019 with ambitions to invest roughly $650 million. Millions of dollars worth of Chinese investment proposals, including those from SAIC, are awaiting Indian government approval.

Electric cars and scooters will be featured at the Indian auto show.

China’s Great Wall Motor decided to abandon its intentions to invest $1 billion and fire every employee in the nation as a result of India’s stricter regulations after New Delhi rejected its request for a regulatory license to buy a factory. The Indian government contacted MG Motor in November and enquired as to why it suffered losses in 2019–2020, its first full fiscal year in the nation.

A manufacturing facility owned by MG Motor India is located in Halol, Gujarat, and has a 125,000 vehicle production capacity per year.
