Shubman Gill, the Indian team’s opener, struck a double hundred in the first one-day international match against New Zealand on Wednesday in Hyderabad, helping his team reach 349 for 8.

Before he was bowled in the final over, Shubman Gill had capably led the innings with 19 fours and nine sixes in a 149-ball marathon. This was his maiden double hundred.

Rohit Sharma, the other Indian opener and captain, who won the toss and elected to bat first, was out early after making 34 off 38 balls.

After scoring eight runs, the team’s ace batsman Virat Kohli was easily bowled by Mitchell Santner’s left-arm spin.

Ishan Kishan, the wicketkeeper-batsman for India, only managed five runs before being bowled by Lockie Ferguson, causing a minor middle-order collapse for the visitors.

During their brief cameos, Suryakumar Yadav (31 off 26 balls) and all-rounder Hardik Pandya (28 off 38 balls) helped India in the first match of the three-match ODI series by forming two key partnerships with Gill.

The notable bowlers for New Zealand were Santner, who got one wicket for 56 runs in his 10 overs, and Daryl Mitchell, who grabbed two wickets for 30 runs in his five overs.

Thanks to Gill’s heroic performance, the Rajiv Gandhi stadium crowd in Hyderabad screamed praises for him and gave him a standing ovation. Meanwhile, on social media, congratulations poured in.
