All nine concrete and RCC bridges that connect Azad Jammu and Kashmir with neighboring Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) are being secured by more police officers as part of a revised security plan, a senior police official said on Tuesday.
Mirza Zahid Hussain, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Muzaffarabad, announced that the action was taken. This action was in light of decisions made during a coordination conference that was recently conducted to examine the security preparations for foreigners, primarily Chinese workers at some large power projects. The conference aimed to ensure the security of the workers in the area.
He claimed that while security at the power projects had also been stepped up. Police officers stationed at all points of entry and exit, including these bridges, had also been instructed to thoroughly check any vehicles and people entering and leaving Muzaffarabad’s borders. Both manual and technology-aided check is done by the officers. This is to ensure safety and security in the area.
Additionally, He claimed that police pickets had been placed along the major thoroughfares on the AJK side of the Rivers Jhelum and Kunhar. The purpose of the pickets is to detain and search any suspicious individuals or vehicles. He added that the move was to ensure safety and security in the area.
According to SSP Hussain, he also gave instructions for police stations and police posts to carry out national action plan. The plan is aimed at ensuring security and safety in the area.
He stated that nine people had been detained as a result of the “combing operations” for breaking the applicable law. The law required them to provide information about their renters to the appropriate police stations. The nine people were detained for failing to comply with this legal requirement.
