In Karachi, the Sindh government introduces Pakistan’s first women-only bus service

The Sindh government declared that Karachi would host Pakistan’s first women’s bus service for only women on February 1.

The information and transportation minister for Sindh, Sharjeel Inaam Memon, tweeted about it.

In a statement, the leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) said that Sindh’s transportation department will launch Pakistan’s first bus service that would be solely for women and girls. Inshallah, Karachi’s Pink buses will begin service on February 1st. At Your Service: Peoples Bus Service.

The specifics of the bus service routes were kept a secret by the ministry.

Sharjeel Inam Memon announced the start of Pakistan’s first-ever electric bus service in Karachi on January 13, 2023.

Pakistan’s first women’s bus service

The Peoples Electric Bus Service was introduced by the local government ministers of Sindh, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and the labour minister, Saeed Ghani, the transport minister.

To attend the inauguration event, the provincial minister boarded the bus and investigated its features.

During his press conference, he announced to the media that the green bus service would begin operating on January 13.

“These buses, which run totally on stored batteries, are of European standard and will not spread any pollutants,” the minister claimed. He added that the buses would give residents affordable transport options in addition to lowering pollution.

Memon stated that the bus travelled along the Khayaban-e-Ittehad road from Tank Chowk in Malir Cantt to the Clock Tower roundabout in Seaview.

The minister added that anyone might use this bus to travel to the airport. Memon claims that the standard fare for a private taxi to the airport is Rs. 1,500. But “you can use the EV bus service for just Rs. 50 to the airport.”
