Aaron Finch retires: The captain of Australia’s T20 team Aaron Finch, announced his retirement from international competition on Tuesday, capping a career that saw him score more than 8,000 runs in all formats.
The 36-year-old, a powerful opening batsman and limited-overs expert, left the ODI team in September. After Australia’s World Cup title defence ended before the semi-finals, it took some time over the domestic summer to make a decision about his T20 future.
In the domestic Big Bash League, he had a great tournament, scoring 428 runs at an average of 38.9 to assist the Melbourne Renegades advance to their first finals series in three years.
Finch was not persuaded to play for Australia by it, though.
It has been a wonderful honour, according to Finch, to play with and against some of the best players of all time while representing Australia for 12 years.
The first T20 World Cup victory in 2021 and winning the ODI World Cup in my country in 2015 will be the two experiences I treasure the most. Team success is what you play the game for.
His career totals include 3,120 T20 runs at an average of 34.28 and 5,406 ODI runs at an average of 38.89. In 2021, he led Australia to their first T20 World Cup victory in the United Arab Emirates.
As a member of the Michael Clarke-captained team that won the 50-over championship in 2015, he also enjoyed World Cup success on home soil.
