Alibaba reports testing a tool similar to ChatGPT

SHANGHAI China’s Alibaba Group (9988. HK) announced on Wednesday that it is testing an artificial intelligence (AI) tool the similar to ChatGPT and that it is now undergoing internal testing.

Since its November release, ChatGPT, a chatbot sensation supported by Microsoft (MSFT.O), has been ranked the fastest-growing consumer app in history. ChatGPT can write articles, essays, jokes, and even poetry in response to questions.

Alibaba released a statement in response to news that it is creating a ChatGPT-like discussion robot that is currently available for staff testing, according to the 21st Century Herald newspaper.

Alibaba declined to comment when contacted about the newspaper article, which also claimed that the company would integrate the technology with its DingTalk chat app.

Since the establishment of DAMO in 2017, “future technologies such as huge language models and generative AI have been our focused areas,” according to an Alibaba spokeswoman.

The statement continued, “As a leader in technology, we will continue to invest in transforming cutting-edge discoveries into value-added applications for both our clients and their end users through cloud services.
