NO Pakistani Dead in Turkey: The deadly earthquake that shook Turkey and Syria on Monday morning, killing more than 15,000 people so far, has not yet been confirmed to have claimed the lives of any Pakistani citizens, according to the foreign office of Pakistan on Wednesday night.
Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, a spokeswoman for the Foreign Office, said: “We have not yet heard anything regarding casualties. The Pakistani community and local government are both in contact with our Missions.”
It is important to note that early on Monday, an earthquake with a 7.8 magnitude wreaked havoc in Syria and Turkey.
The Pakistani Embassy in Turkey tweeted on Tuesday to let people know that “19 Pakistani students, who were in earthquake-stricken Gaziantep, have been relocated and granted accommodation in Adana.”
They further said that plans were being made by the embassy to fly them back to Pakistan shortly.
The Pakistani embassy tweeted another video showing Pakistani Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) workers helping those in need in Turkey.
The embassy said that two individuals who had been trapped under the rubble in Adyaman, Turkey for more than 48 hours had been rescued alive.
Tuesday morning, a third Pakistani plane carrying rescue crews and aid for the victims touched down in Adana, Turkey.
Officials and medical personnel reported that 12,391 deaths in Turkey and at least 2,992 in Syria resulted from Monday’s 7.8-magnitude earthquake, bringing the overall death toll to 15,383; analysts anticipate a dramatic increase in that number.
