man jailed hitting wife TikTok live: Despite the victim’s decision not to report the incident to the police, a Spanish man who slapped his wife on a TikTok video was given a year in prison on Monday.
The guy was found guilty of violence against women by a court in the northern city of Soria, who also barred him for three years from interacting with or being within 300 metres (1,000 feet) of his wife or getting a firearm during that period.
The incident occurred in the early hours of January 28 during a TikTok “fight” between a woman and three males, which is a real-time competition amongst streamers where the winner is chosen by viewers.
Images of a guy striking his wife in the face so forcefully that she turns around and starts crying went viral in Spain.
“Spanish Court Convicts Husband in Gender Assault Case Without Victim Testimony”
The court declared that the defendant intentionally attacked his wife in front of a large crowd in order to compromise her bodily integrity and degrade her reputation.
“In cases of gender assault, the victim does not have to file a complaint. Once it is known that they have been committed, these should be punished “the tribunal added.
“Whether or not the victim recognises herself as such, broadcasting the slap live is sufficient for the authorities to step in and protect the victim.”
In addition to declining to file charges against her husband, the wife also declined to testify against him in court.
Nonetheless, the court claimed that the fact that police had previously been called to the couple’s residence due to “disputes between the accused and his wife” was evidence of “continuous abuse”.
The fight against domestic abuse has been a top concern for both the right and left of Spanish governments in the past.
In 2004, the European Union’s first law expressly targeting gender-based violence was passed by the parliament with overwhelming support.
It set up special courts, provided victims with free legal assistance, and established a hotline that wouldn’t show up on their phone bills.
