Former foreign minister and vice chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Shah Mahmood Qureshi, has been freed from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi released: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench ordered the immediate release of Shah Mahmood Qureshi, vice chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), earlier today.

After hearing the case, Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz of the high court ruled that Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s incarceration was “illegal.”

The court mandated Qureshi to submit an affidavit to the deputy commissioner of Rawalpindi within three days of his release.

On Monday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) directed the Punjab caretaker government to disclose details of all cases registered against Qureshi by June 6.

Authorities re-arrested the PTI leader on May 23, immediately after his release from Adiala Jail. Shah Mahmood had been released from Adiala jail based on court orders, but he was swiftly taken into custody shortly after being released.

It is important to mention here that the police in Islamabad took former foreign minister Qureshi into custody following the protests on May 9.

However, After the arrest of the former prime minister Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case, leading to riots breaking out across Pakistan, authorities took Shah Mehmood into custody from Gilgit Baltistan House in Islamabad.
