Trump is in Bedminster, New Jersey. Just before Trump announced his indictment on his Truth Social platform, prosecutors contacted his attorneys, according to an unauthorized person who disclosed the matter.
After making the announcement, Trump started raising money for his 2024 presidential campaign 20 minutes later.

Trump is now in even more legal danger due to the case. New York has already charged him, and investigations in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., are underway regarding his actions. As the case progresses, Attorney General Merrick Garland will juxtapose Trump’s assertions of broad presidential authority with his repeated maxim that nobody, including a former commander-in-chief, should be considered exempt from the law.
The indictment results from a months-long investigation by special counsel Jack Smith into whether Trump broke the law by keeping hundreds of documents with the designation “classified” at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach and whether Trump took actions to thwart the government’s efforts to retrieve the records.
Trump’s Secret Documents and Potential Legal Consequences Spark Speculation and Political Uncertainty
According to prosecutors, Trump brought around 300 secret documents to Mar-a-Lago after leaving the White House, including about 100 that the FBI collected during a search of the residence in August of last year, underscoring the seriousness of the Justice Department’s inquiry.
Trump and his administration have always viewed the special counsel inquiry as far riskier than the New York case, both politically and legally. Campaign staffers have been preparing for negative consequences and anticipating imminent charges ever since Trump’s attorneys informed them that he was the subject of the investigation.

His initial indictment sparked millions of dollars in donations from enraged supporters while doing little to harm Trump’s standing in the polls.
