Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told his staff on Thursday that while Apple’s mixed reality equipment may be cool, it is not his vision for the future.
Zuckerberg shakes off Apple Vision Pro: Besides being made just days after Apple launched its Vision Pro mixed reality headsets, Zuckerberg’s remarks were made during the first all-hands meeting held at the company’s Silicon Valley site since the pandemic.
Regarding Apple Vision Pro, Zuckerberg reportedly said, “I mean, that could be the vision of the future of computing, but like, it’s not the one that I want.”
There is a significant philosophical gap between the ways we approach this.
Zuckerberg believes that internet life will eventually occur in virtual worlds known as the metaverse. Meta, the company that sells Quest virtual reality headsets, has extensively invested in this idea.
As Zuckerberg stated, “Our vision for the metaverse and presence is fundamentally social,” The Verge, a tech news website, uploaded a transcript of his speech.
In contrast, each demo that (Apple) displayed included a lone individual sitting on a couch.
In 2021, Meta changed its identity from Facebook and started investing billions in its goal of building the metaverse, a concept for a 3D immersive internet. This was done because it was so convinced it could do this.
However, failed launches, questionable aesthetics, an unclear path to profitability, and the perception that few people know it have hindered the concept.
The division in charge of Meta’s metaverse project, Reality Labs, has lost $4 billion, and Zuckerberg has been focusing more on artificial intelligence than the metaverse.
According to CNBC, Zuckerberg stated at the all-hands meeting that Meta intends to incorporate generative AI into “every single one” of its products.
Apple presented the sleek Vision Pro “spatial reality display” this week, which costs $3,499.
Vision Pro is to be available early next year.
Users can interact, work, watch films, listen to music, and even decide whether to engage in the experience fully.
Later this year, a new-generation Quest 3 with a $500 starting price will be available; it will have increased performance and a slimmer design.
According to Zuckerberg, the upcoming iteration will be Meta’s “most powerful headset yet, ” offering the best wireless experience for mixed and virtual reality.
Quest 2 headphones are now available for a starting price of $300.
Meta’s Quest headset hasn’t gained traction with gamers and specialized users.
According to reports, Zuckerberg told staff members, “We innovate to ensure that our products are as accessible and affordable to everyone as possible.”
