An explosion that occurred inside a restaurant in the northwest Chinese city of Yinchuan on the eve of a well-known local holiday has left at least 31 people dead.
China restaurant explosion: According to the local Communist party committee, a liquefied petroleum gas leak “caused an explosion during the operation of a barbecue restaurant,” according to a report from the state-run Xinhua news agency on the Wednesday evening accident.
Additionally, According to the organisation, seven additional patients were being treated, with one being in a “critical condition”. According to Xinhua, two more people had moderate injuries, two had minor wounds, and two had scrapes from flying glass.
The Fuyang Barbecue Restaurant, which is located in a residential section of the heart of Yinchuan, the regional capital of the autonomous Ningxia region, experienced an explosion on Wednesday at around 8:40 p.m. local time.
CCTV footage showed more than a dozen firefighters working at the scene as smoke streamed out of a big hole in the restaurant’s exterior. Glass shards and other debris covered the dimly illuminated street, which is also home to a number of other restaurants and entertainment establishments.
Following the explosion, local fire and rescue services sent more than 100 personnel and 20 vehicles to the location, according to the ministry of emergency management.
It stated that the rescue operations were over at 4am on Thursday.
