Defence Minister Khawaja Asif retaliated against the US and India on Friday in ISLAMABAD for bringing up Pakistan in a joint statement following a meeting between President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Pakistan reacts Biden and Modi joint statement: The federal minister noted on Twitter that “the irony of this statement coming during the visit of someone who was banned entry to the US for overseeing a pogrom of Muslims when he was CM Gujarat” was not lost on him.
Khawaja Asif accused the Indian PM, Narendra Modi, of orchestrating a state-sponsored terrorism campaign in Kashmir, resulting in the blinding and maiming of the indigenous population.
The minister claimed that “Modi’s acolytes lynch Muslims, Christians, and other minorities, with impunity, throughout the rest of the country.”
The defence minister further emphasised that “due to failed American interventions in the region, Pakistan has lost countless lives and has been at war with terrorism continuously for decades now.”
The next time President Biden honours the Butcher of Gujarat, perhaps he should take these facts into account, Asif suggested.
While speaking on the National Assembly (NA) floor, Khawaja Asif claimed that during his time as Gujarat’s chief minister, Narendra Modi oversaw the murder of thousands of Muslims and the rape of Muslim women. As a result of these atrocities, the US at the time had put a ban on granting him a visa.
Concerns over Indian Prime Minister’s Targeting of Minorities and State Terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir
The minister claimed that the Indian prime minister continues to target minorities, particularly Muslims. He said, “In Indian unlawfully occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), there is an undeclared curfew, and the people there are living under limitations of all kinds in flagrant violation of human rights.
He further stated that the Indian government is perpetrating state terrorism in the unlawfully occupied region of Jammu and Kashmir.
Regarding the country’s ties with the US, Khawaja Asif stated that Pakistan was currently paying a high price for its role as a frontline state in the two Afghan wars.
According to him, Pakistan became a haven for terrorism because the US had made it an ally in the fight against terrorism. He grieved that Pakistan’s sacrifices had gone unrecognised.
According to a statement from the White House from the day before, Modi and Biden issued a strong condemnation of cross-border terrorism, the use of terrorist proxies, and urged Pakistan to take immediate action to prevent the use of its controlled territory for launching terrorist attacks.
The joint statement had stated that “President Biden and Prime Minister Modi reiterated the call for concerted action against all UN-listed terrorist groups including Al-Qaeda, ISIS/Daesh, Lashkar e-Tayyiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Hizb-ul-Mujhahideen.”
