PTI leaders arrested in Swat for May 9 riots

Following Imran Khan’s detention on May 9, police arrested two Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders from Swat on Wednesday. They are accused of participating in the demonstrations.

PTI leaders arrested in Swat: Former Swat mayor Shahid Ali Khan and former province minister Dr. Amjad are among the leaders who have been detained. They were both wanted by the police and were both detained under the Maintainance of Public Order Act.

Following Imran Khan’s detention, Dr. Amjad is accused of instigating PTI members to demonstrate. He is accused of gathering party members for a demonstration at Chakdara Motorway. During this demonstration, the Chakdara Interchange was also set on fire.

Amjad is accused with terrorism and mutiny in the case.

Following their arrest, both PTI leaders were sent to an unidentified location.

After nationwide rallies on May 9 when Imran Khan was taken into custody from the Islamabad High Court, authorities have retaliated against PTI officials and workers.

Violence erupted during the protests in various locations, including Peshawar and Lahore. Numerous PTI employees were detained as a result of attacks on military homes and public buildings.
