The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman was the target of the Toshakhana case, which the Islamabad High Court (IHC) ruled was inadmissible on Tuesday.

IHC declares Toshakhana case inadmissible: IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq announced the decision on the challenge brought by the former premier, who contested the admissibility of the criminal case filed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in a trial court.

After the PTI leader was charged on May 10, the plea was submitted. The high court halted the criminal prosecution of the Toshakhana case two days later.

Toshakhana allusion

Legislators from the ruling coalition filed the reference, which claims Imran failed to disclose information about the gifts he received from the Toshaskhana (during his tenure as prime minister), last year.

After the Election Commission of Pakistan disqualified the PTI chief for making “false statements and incorrect declarations” last month, the Toshakhana issue became a significant source of contention in national politics.

The ruling stated that the court deemed the former premier to have engaged in corrupt practices, citing provisions 167 and 173 of the constitution. He will be subject to a criminal investigation for filing a fraudulent statement.

In its 36-page thorough judgement on the matter, the ECP stated that “His disqualification under Article 63, 1(P) has been for his current parliament membership.”

He had around half the value of the governmental presents in his bank account. The ECP judgement stated that the PTI head failed to disclose the cash and bank account information in his returns, as required.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Imran Khan has been disqualified under Article 63, 1(P), for making a false statement and declaration. The ECP further announced his removal from his National Assembly seat.

Following this, on March 9, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) began an investigation into the Toshakhana scandal involving the former prime minister Imran Khan.

However, The NAB took action after Dubai-based businessman Umar Farooq Zahoor alleged that the PTI administration sold a pricey Graff timepiece worth $2 million that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman had given to former prime minister Imran Khan for Rs280 million at the time of sale in 2019.
