The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Fawad Chaudhry, a former leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), in a contempt case.
Fawad Chaudhry’s arrest warrant issued by ECP: The Chief Election Commissioner presided over a five-member commission that considered the case.
Fawad’s assistant attorney went before the ECP during today’s sessions and asked the court to postpone the case.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) then enquired as to whether or not Fawad will show up today.
The High Court will make a decision on the matter in a few days, according to Fawad’s attorney, who asked ECP to adjourn the case.
Following this, ECP rejected Fawad’s attorney’s argument and issued an arrest warrant for him in a contempt case without the possibility of bail.
The case hearing was postponed until July 28.
For allegedly using “intemperate” language against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja and the electoral watchdog, the ECP issued notifications to Chaudhry and others in August 2022.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja made the decision to issue an arrest warrant for Fawad Chaudhry due to his persistent absenteeism during the most recent hearing of the ECP contempt case.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) earlier postponed the arrest warrants issued for the former prime minister and Fawad.
