Anwar Ibrahim, the prime minister of Malaysia, announced on Friday that he would meet with Elon Musk, the billionaire founder of Twitter and CEO of Tesla, to talk about the latter’s investment in the Southeast Asian country.
Malaysia PM meet Elon Musk: Anwar spoke at a gathering of government officials and said, “Elon Musk asked to discuss with me the possibility and his commitment to increase his investments in Malaysia next week.”
In March, the Malaysian Trade Ministry announced that it had authorised Tesla Inc.’s request to import battery-powered EVs into Malaysia.
It stated that Tesla will set up a network of charging points for its cars as well as an office, dealerships, and service centres in the nation, although it did not provide a timeframe.
Tesla did not immediately comply with the request for comment.
Further, No other information on the meeting next week was provided by Anwar.
Anwar added that the Saudi national oil corporation, Saudi Aramco, had committed to raise its investments in the state of Johor during their meeting at a conference in late June.
However, Saudi Aramco and Malaysia’s Petronas own a petrochemical and refinery facility located in Pengerang, Johor.
