The NATO summit this week and Kyiv’s counteroffensive operation to retake territory gained by Russia were topics of a phone chat between U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, who both confirmed it late on Sunday.
US Ukraine’s top diplomats hold ‘important call: Prior to this week’s NATO Summit, I had an important conversation with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, Blinken wrote on Twitter.
The two ambassadors also talked about “progress in Ukraine’s counteroffensive,” according to a separate statement from U.S. Department of State spokesperson Matthew Miller.
On Twitter, Kuleba stated that the call intended to finalise plans before the NATO summit, which begins on Tuesday in Vilnius.
Before Vilnius, I had a productive call with Secretary Blinken,” Kuleba tweeted. “We are working to make its final decisions a win for all: Ukraine, NATO, and global security,” the statement continued, “with 48 hours left.”
In Vilnius, Ukraine is looking to get a clear message regarding its chances of joining NATO. President Joe Biden and other members of the U.S.-led alliance will talk about the actions Ukraine needs to take, the White House announced on Friday.
