Shah Mahmood Qureshi, vice chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had his pre-arrest bail extended by an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad till July 26 in connection with cases involving violence from May 9.
Shah Mahmood bail extended: Qureshi’s council Ali Bukhari stood before the court while ATC Judge Abul Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain heard the case.
The attorney claimed at the hearing that all other suspects in the case had received bond.
In response, the court questioned the police about their investigation.
The police representatives then advised the court that the inquiry was still ongoing.
The court extended Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s pre-arrest bail after hearing the reasons and postponed the case until July 26.
Protests
Violent confrontations broke out around Pakistan after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) took former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader into custody on May 9.
The detention of their chairman led to agitation among the party workers, resulting in rallies being held in both remote and populous places. Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad called in the armed forces to maintain peace and order.
During a protest by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers, army installations and the residence of the corps commander in Lahore came under attack.
