In order to ensure peace and order during the first 10 days of the holy month of Muharram, the Punjab Home Department on Wednesday imposed Section 144 across the state.
Muharram Section 144 imposed Punjab: The department also sent out a notification in this regard. The notification lists other limitations to maintain security during religious observances.Also strongly forbidden during processions is the use of knives, swords, and sticks.
The authorities have also prohibited people from standing on the roofs of homes and businesses around the procession routes in order to safeguard the security of locals and participants during Muharram processions.
The authorities will prohibit pillion riding throughout the province on the ninth and tenth of Muharram.
Separately, yesterday, in order to maintain peace and security during the holy month of Muharram, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) implemented section 144 in Islamabad.
“Youm-e-Ashur will be observed on July 29 (Saturday), and the Muharram moon was not sighted in Pakistan yesterday.”
The first Muharram will fall on Thursday, July 20, according to a statement made by the committee. Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, the chairman of the committee, presided over the meeting for the sighting.
Maulana Azad stated that they held zonal crescent sighting committee meetings across the country.
