An accountability court in Lahore dismissed a money laundering lawsuit against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, his son Hamza Shahbaz, and others.
Shehbaz Hamza acquitted in money laundering case: In addition, the court exonerated Muhammad Usman, Masroor Anwar, Shoaib Qamar, Qasim Qayyum, Rashid Karamat, Ali Ahmed, and Nisar Ahmed in addition to the PM’s wife Nusrat Shehbaz.
Rabia Imran, the daughter of PM Shehbaz, was instead the subject of a lifetime arrest warrant from the court.
In August 2020, the anti-graft agency filed a reference against Shehbaz Sharif and others. After the Lahore High Court denied him bail in the case on September 29, he was taken into custody by NAB.
On November 11, 2020, a court of accountability indicted the prime minister, Hamza, and other defendants.
However, a special court released PM Shehbaz in April 2021, while they granted bail to Hamza in February 2021.
A special court cleared Suleman Shehbaz and the other defendants in the money laundering case earlier this month.
Judge Bakht Behzad of the Special Central Court made the decision regarding the acquittal petitions submitted by Suleman Shehbaz and other accused public.
