“The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is stepping up efforts to persuade coalition parties, and as a result, they are appointing Finance Minister Ishaq Dar as the acting prime minister.”

PML-N nominate Ishaq Dar as interim PM: Nawaz Sharif, the former prime minister and leader of the PML-N, regards Ishaq Dar, the current finance minister, as a close ally.

According to sources, the PML-N has stepped up efforts to persuade the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), a coalition partner in the Centre, to support Ishaq Dar as interim prime minister.

According to sources, Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the PML-N, and Asif Ali Zardari, the co-chairman of the PPP, met to discuss the appointment of a finance minister.

Additionally, according to PML-N sources, discussions will continue in order to settle on a nominee for the caretaker prime minister.

Speaking to a private TV station, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said that as long as the government and opposition were in agreement, anyone—including Ishaq Dar—could serve as the caretaker prime minister.

It would be premature, according to Ahsan Iqbal, to make any additional comments on the subject. He emphasised once more that the opposition and the coalition parties in the government must agree on the candidate.

“The government’s members are already discussing the specifics of the temporary set-up as the National Assembly’s term is schedule to end on August 12.”

It is important to note that Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, established a five-person discussion committee to resolve issues pertaining to the caretaker government and general elections.

Ayaz Sadiq, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Khawaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, and Ishaq Dar are among the members of the committee.

“Coalition Parties to Hold Talks on Caretaker Setup, Urged by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif”

The committee will hold talks with the coalition parties, such as the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P), and others.

The premier urged the coalition parties to form conversation committees. Nawaz Sharif would continue to be in touch with the PML-N’s discussion committee. The coalition partners would consult on the caretaker setup, according to other sources.

In his address to the country earlier this month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that the current administration will cede control to the caretaker setup in August 2023.

According to PM Shehbaz Sharif, he took office in April 2022 and will transfer authority to a caretaker regime in August 2023.

ECP is prepared for the general elections.

“Yesterday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) secretary stated that the organization is completely prepared to hold general elections in the nation.”

Omar Hamid Khan stated during a casual interaction with reporters outside the ECP headquarters, “The commission is well prepare to hold general elections.” If approved, new census findings will lead to new delimitations, which will take four months.”

The ECP secretary stated that if the federal government approves the new census findings, they will decide in accordance with the law.

“We sent the electoral reforms committee more than 60 recommendations. The electoral reforms committee agreed with almost all of ECP’s suggestions.

“The secretary said, ‘However, we are yet to make the formal announcement for the acceptance of the recommendations.'”

“On August 12, ECP Special Secretary Zafar Iqbal assured the media that the commission would organize general elections by October 11.”
