Recent rains kill 215 across Pakistan: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) report has confirmed 133 deaths and 215 injuries, including 21 women and 55 children, thus far.
368 homes have also been destroyed, according to NDMA data, as the nation’s infrastructure has continued to be devastated by severe rain.
According to the NDMA data, Punjab had the highest death toll with 65 victims of the heavy rains, 35 victims in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and six victims in Balochistan.
The Met Office had earlier issued a warning that from July 20 to July 22 heavy rain could result in urban floods in low-lying regions of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and other important towns.
According to the weather report, “Heavy rain may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, and Lahore.”
In Murree’s vulnerable areas, high rainfall could cause landslides. In Pakistan, monsoon rains can cause fatal landslides.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a warning that during the projected period, heavy rain may result in flooding situations in the local Nullahs of Dera Ghazi Khan and surrounding districts of Balochistan.
Monsoon currents, originating in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, are affecting most of the country. A westerly wave is impacting the upper regions of the nation.
