KARACHI: Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan’s prime minister, promised to allay the concerns of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) on the upcoming elections and the new census.
PM Shehbaz assures MQM-P: According to reports, today in Karachi, Governor of Sindh Kamran Tessori met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
They talked on development initiatives by the federal government for Karachi and the province, particularly the K-IV water project.
In order to increase industrial production, Governor Sindh asked the Prime Minister to address Karachi’s issues as quickly as possible.
According to sources, the MQM-P informed the prime minister of their concerns over the census and general election.
Sources informed that PM Shehbaz reassured the MQM-P delegation that the government had not made any decision regarding holding elections in conjunction with the upcoming census.
PM Shehbaz stated that the MQM-P would be consulted on the approaching general elections and caretaker government, according to sources with the MQM-P.
After Muharram, the MQM-P team will meet with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif once more.
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) criticized the federal government’s ‘ignorance’ of important issues, including the timing to dissolve the National Assembly (NA).
“The details indicate that Khalid Maqbool’s party voiced unhappiness over not having a say in important issues, such as the dissolution of the National Assembly (NA), the establishment of a caretaker administration, and the holding of elections for the 2017 Census.
