The chief of Karachi’s traffic police released a traffic diversion plan for the processions expected to take place on Muharram 8, 9, and 10.
Karachi Traffic plan for Muharram: As per the traffic plan, the main procession of Muharram 8, Thursday (July 27) will commence from Nishtar Park at 1:30pm and pass through Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto Road, Mehfil-e-Shah-e-Khurasan, MA Jinnah Road, Mansfield Street, Preedy Street, MA Jinnah Road, Baba-e-Urdu Road, Nishtar Road, Bara Imam, Altaf Hussain Road (Old Napier Road), Bolton Market, Bombay Bazaar and Nawab Mohabbat Khanji Road and culminate at the Hussainian Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar.
The major assembly will take place in Nishtar Park following the procession of religious scholars, which will leave from Liaquatabad Imambargah on Martin Road at 9 a.m. on Muharram 9 (July 28).
From there, the procession will proceed, stopping at the Hussainian Iranian Imambargah after travelling through Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto Road, Mehfil-e-Shah-e-Khurasan, MA Jinnah Road, Mansfield Street, Preedy Street, Tibet Centre, MA Jinnah Road, Bolton Market, Bombay Bazaar, Kharadar, and Nawab Mohabbat Khanji Road.
The main procession will travel through Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto Road, Mehfil-e-Shah-e-Khurasan, MA Jinnah Road, Mansfield Street, Preedy Street, Tibet Centre, MA Jinnah Road, Bolton Market, Bombay Bazaar, Kharadar, and Nawab Mohabbat Khanji Road to the Hussainian Iranian Imambargah on the morning of July 10 from 7:30 am to 9 am.
The procession will redirect all city traffic to Jubilee or Nishtar Road until it leaves Nishtar Park from Soldier Bazaar (Bahadur Yar Jung Road), Coast Guards HQ, and Ankle Saria Chowk.
Nishtar Road, leading to Garden, will detour all traffic from Nazimabad to MA Jinnah Road, starting from Lasbela Chowk.
Traffic Diversion Plan for MA Jinnah Road Celebration
Meanwhile, the authorities will detour traffic from Liaquatabad to MA Jinnah Road into Jail Road, which will subsequently become Martin Road, starting from Teen Hatti Chowk.
All of these vehicles will have permission to travel to Jamshed Road, Dadabhai Noorji Road, Kashmir Road, Highway Leaders, and Highway Faisal through the Jail Chowrangi Flyover and Jail Road.
Authorities will permit all traffic on University Road to travel in the direction of MA Jinnah Road and the New MA Jinnah Road.
However, in order to reach Sharea Faisal, these vehicles must take the route that runs beneath the Jail Chowrangi flyover, through Kashmir Road, Society Light Signal, and Highway Leaders.
It will be necessary to detour all traffic from Liaquatabad No. 10 to Nazimabad Chowrangi No. 2 through the Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road and Shershah to Mauripur.
All traffic entering the city from the National Highway, whether via Sharea Faisal or Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Sulaiman Road, Hassan Square, Liaquatabad No. 10, Nazimabad Chowrangi No. 2, Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, or Shershah to Mauripur, will proceed as normal with permission.
Authorities will not permit any traffic to travel beyond Gurumandir Chowk; instead, they will detour it to Bahadur Yar Jung Road (Soldier Bazaar).
Parade Route and Traffic Diversion Plan for MA Jinnah Road Celebration
Only those vehicles whose windscreens display stickers to join the parade will be allowed entry onto MA Jinnah Road. The Highway Leaders Society Light Signal will open for vehicles with stickers to enter the parade.
No traffic would be stopped as it travels from Garden (the Karachi Zoo) to Aga Khan Road; instead, it will be free to continue towards Ankle Saria Hospital before being redirected to Holy Family Hospital and Jubilee Chowk.
Participants in the parade will travel from Nazimabad through Lasbela, Albela, the Garden Jamaat Khana on the right, and Soldier Bazaar No. 3 light signal before arriving at Numaish. From Numaish via Liaquatabad, Teen Hatti, Jahangir Road, and Gurumandir.
University Road, Old Sabzi Mandi, Kashmir Road, and Society Light Signal lead to Numaish from Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
The locations of diversions will be Teen Hatti, Lasbela, Love Lane Chowk, KMC Workshop, Lea Market, Jinnah Bridge, Mauripur Road, Ismaili Jamaat Khana, Taj Peshawari Hotel (Kharadar), Atma Ram Pritam Das Road, Aga Khan III Road, Ankle Saria Hospital, Gurumandir, Jamshed Road, Society Light Signal, Jail Flyover, Shahrah-e-Liaquat, Abdullah Haroon Road, MR Kayani Road, Dr Dawood Pota Road, Mir Karam Ali Talpur Road and Mansfield Street (Tahiri Mosque).
