Today, the Punjab Film Censor Board will convene to decide whether to allow the release of the Hollywood movie “Barbie.”
Punjab decide release of Barbie: In a statement, Punjab’s interim communication minister Amir Mir said “The censor board will review the film Barbie.” “Objectionable content will be removed before the movie is released.”
Barbie, a blockbuster from Warner Bros., continues “rolling down a hill of cash,” earning an estimated $93 million this past weekend in North American theatres, according to industry observer Exhibitor Relations.
According to AFP, the Greta Gerwig picture, which stars Margot Robbie as “Barbie” and Ryan Gosling as her boyfriend “Ken,” has already made $351.4 million in North American ticket sales and $423 million internationally, putting it on course to become the next movie to gross $1 billion worldwide.
All 12 members of the censor board, including Chairman Touqeer Nasir, would participate in the reevaluation procedure.
According to media sources, Barbie was subject to a ban in Punjab because of the existence of “objectionable content”. The content that the board finds inappropriate would be deleted as part of the reevaluation process.
Mir stated to BBC Urdu last week that the film was “not banned” in the region.
However, He stated that if other provinces didn’t mind playing inappropriate content, Punjab would not release the movie.
