In an effort to raise the pay of local government officials, the Sindh government, governed by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), has agreed to alter the Local Government Act, 2013.
Sindh govt increase salaries local govt: By modifying the Local Government Act of 2013 and the Rules Book of 2017, the province government agreed to raise the wages and privileges of local government representatives, including mayors, deputy mayors, and chairmen and vice chairmen of Union Councils (UC).
Sources have proposed a 100% increase in the salary of mayors and deputy mayors. The revised bill will be presented at tomorrow’s meeting of the Sindh Cabinet.
Sindh LG Secretary Najam Shah will present the amending bill to the cabinet tomorrow.
Earlier in July, the Sindh cabinet significantly amended the Local Government Act to grant more authority to mayors, UC chairmen, and LG institutions.
The Sindh cabinet passed the LG Act modifications, granting mayors and UC chairmen the authority to lead the development authorities in their respective divisions and districts throughout the province.
The Karachi mayor will hold ex officio membership in the Lyari Development Authority (LDA), Malir Development Authority (MDA), and Karachi Development Authority (KDA) as a result of the LG Act modifications.
Additionally, The mayor of Hyderabad will preside over the Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA).
However, The relevant mayor will assist in choosing one of the three selected candidates as the chief executive of the regional solid waste management.
The Sindh government will appoint one of the three officials who made the shortlist to serve as the chief executive of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) after consulting with the Karachi mayor, who will also serve as the ex officio chairman of the board.
