Asif Ali Zardari, a former president and co-chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), will wrap off a two-week private travel abroad on August 4.
Asif Zardari likely to return on Aug 4: According to sources closer to PPP, Asif Ali Zardari is now travelling privately abroad. On July 21, he had flown from Karachi to Dubai before continuing on to Europe.
The PPP co-chairman will pick up his political activity once he gets home.
According to sources, Zardari would meet with Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, and Maulana Fazlur Rehman to discuss the dissolution of the assembly and the appointment of a caretaker government.
Earlier today, it came to light that PM Shehbaz Sharif had reached out to PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif and former president Asif Ali Zardari to discuss the formation of a caretaker set-up.
According to sources with knowledge of the development, PM Sharif spoke on the phone with former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and PPP co-chairman Zardari about the names they had in mind for the caretaker prime minister and the caretaker setup.
According to sources, the leaders decided to carry out the procedure for choosing the interim prime minister in accordance with the Constitution and the legislation.
Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif agreed to give the names of all potential caretaker prime minister candidates to the coalition partners.
Additionally, the coalition parties are expected to hold consultations on the matter today, and the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, Raja Riaz, will talk with opposition legislators about the caretaker PM as well.
