The Election Commission has assigned the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) a “sword” emblem for the upcoming elections on Thursday in Islamabad.
PPP gets sword as election symbol: In order to receive the electoral emblem, PPP General Secretary Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari attended before the electoral Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The ECP granted the PPP access to the emblem at Bukhari’s request.
Bukhari stated in a statement after winning the desired electoral symbol that Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari regaining the party of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto is an act of dignity.
During the elections of 1977, the former military dictator Gen Ziaul Haq removed the words “sword” and “scales” from the list of electoral emblems among the three symbols.
Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the founder of the PPP, also received a sword as his election emblem.
