Russia reportedly launched a massive airstrike on the western Ukrainian regions of Lviv and Volyn, damaging a number of structures, injuring people, and prompting evacuations.
Russia strikes Ukraine in air attack: On the Telegram messaging app, Andriy Sadovyi, the city’s mayor, communicated that “we shot down many missiles, but Lviv also suffered hits.” He further stated that orders were issued to evacuate at least one burning apartment block.
It was unclear right away how big of an attack it was or how badly it affected Lviv.
Maxim Kozitsky, the governor of the Lviv region, had earlier claimed that “groups of Russian missiles” were en route to the area. Until July, Russia’s airstrikes mostly steered clear of the Lviv region, which is distant from the conflict and shares a western border with NATO member Poland.
But in July, a missile that struck a residential building resulted in the deaths of seven people.
According to early reports, Tuesday’s bombing was the largest airstrike on the Lviv region since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, according to Ukrainian media.
Reuters could not immediately confirm the reports and the attacks in the area.
Russian airstrikes on the city of Lutsk in the Volyn area also hit a commercial building, hurting at least two persons, local authorities reported on Telegram. North of Lviv, the Volyn region shares a border with Poland.
“Around two in the morning (2300 GMT), the authorities broadcasted air raid warnings for the entire country of Ukraine for a span of about two hours.”
“Serhiy Lisak, the governor of the territory, reported on Telegram that Russia’s attack on the southwest Ukrainian region of Dnipropetrovsk resulted in hitting a business and starting a fire.”
