Maryam Nawaz, Sanaullah Face Jail Risk as SC Reviews Bail Pleas

Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the head of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, and Rana Sanaullah now run the prospect of going to prison after the Supreme Court of Pakistan scheduled an application for the termination of their bail for separate hearings on Friday.

Maryam Sanaullah Face Jail Risk: On the benches that will hear the arguments on August 22 and August 23, respectively, against Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Rana Sanaullah, is Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial.

The change occurs just one week after Shehbaz Sharif, the head of the PMLN, left the Prime Minister House when the PMLN-led coalition government’s mandate was up.

Accusations have been levied against Maryam Nawaz in the Shamim Sugar Mills case for acquiring assets outside a known source of income. On March 24, 2021, the court granted her bail in the case.

The subject is currently before the Supreme Court after the national accountability watchdog NAB filed arguments for the termination of her bail.

On Tuesday, August 22, a two-person bench made up of CJP Bandial and Justice Athar Minallah will hear the NAB’s argument.

On August 23, the highest court will hear a similar argument for revoking the bail of former interior minister Rana Sanaullah.

Accusing Sanaullah of amassing wealth outside of established sources of income.

Both Panama JIT and Ahad Cheema

On August 25, the Supreme Court will hear Ahad Cheema’s bail application. Cheema has been named the caretaker prime minister’s advisor. Cheema had a good relationship with the previous Sharifian administration.

Additionally, In related news, the Supreme Court will hear the plea from the Broadsheet Company to access the volumes of the Panama JIT on August 22. The Pakistani Supreme Court established the JIT in 2017 as per its directive.

Furthermore, the court has scheduled a hearing date to address the matter of the resignations of PTI members of the National Assembly in 2014. However, The hearing will take place on August 21, 2023, in response to a 2014 motion by attorney Shahid Orkazai.
