Iran-Saudi Arabia relations improving after deal: China

In Beijing, the Chinese foreign minister asserted that Iran and Saudi Arabia, with China mediating the settlement, actively moved forward to normalize their relations, giving rise to a “wave of reconciliation” in the Middle East.

Iran-Saudi Arabia relations improving after deal: According to a statement released by Minister Wang Yi on Monday, China “appreciates the correct decision made by the Iranian side” and pledged to help Middle Eastern nations as they pursue development that is in keeping with their own national circumstances.

Mr. Wang further stated that reinstating the JCPOA’s integrity and ensuring its successful implementation remains the fundamental solution to the Iranian nuclear issue.

In a phone conversation with his Iranian colleague Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Chinese foreign minister expressed Beijing’s appreciation for Iran’s recent efforts to strengthen ties with Saudi Arabia, including his meeting with the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah.

Wang also promised to “continue to support countries in the Middle East in exploring a development path that suits their own national conditions, strengthening communication and dialogue, adhering to unity and self-improvement, and realising good-neighbourliness and friendship,” according to official media.

China engineered a breakthrough in relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia in March after years of acrimonious rivalry that had destabilised numerous Middle Eastern nations. The agreement resolved a diplomatic split between Tehran and Riyadh.

After protestors attacked its embassy in Tehran in 2016 in retribution for Riyadh’s death of a prominent Shia cleric, Saudi Arabia severed ties with Iran.

After meeting with his Saudi counterpart in Riyadh earlier this week, Iran’s foreign minister declared that both nations are making strides towards improving relations.

Advancements in Iran-Saudi Relations: Successful Talks and Future Cooperation

In a joint press conference with Prince Faisal bin Farhan of Saudi Arabia, Hossein Amirabdollahian stated that “the talks were successful” and added that “relations between Tehran and Saudi are on the right track and we are witnessing progress.”

Prince Faisal expressed the expectation that King Salman bin Abdulaziz would extend an invitation to President Ebrahim Raisi of Iran to visit the country after his June visit. The “appropriate time” will be when Raisi visits the kingdom, he has stated.

The ambassadors of the two nations would begin serving in their roles in their respective embassies after their reopening, according to Prince Faisal, who added that the kingdom was eager to implement the major parts of the arrangement, whether they were political or economic. The settlement was mediated by China.

Iran’s embassy in Saudi Arabia began operations in June, and Iranian state media claimed earlier this month that the embassy in Tehran had done the same.

“We look forward to a new phase in our relationship based on our Islamic brotherhood and work towards common interests,” Prince Faisal said. He also expressed his appreciation for Iran’s support of Riyadh’s quest to host Expo 2030.
