Heath Streak, a former captain of the Zimbabwe cricket team who had been battling cancer, passed away late on Tuesday, according to his former teammate Henry Olonga. He was 49 years old.
Heath Streak dies: The all-around player led his nation in Test wickets taken. Between 1993 and 2005, the streak played 65 Tests and amassed 1,990 runs and 216 wickets. Additionally, he took 239 wickets and scored 2,943 runs while playing in 189 one-day internationals.
Olonga posted on X, formerly Twitter, “Sad news coming through that Heath Streak has crossed to the other side.”
Legendary Zimbabwean cricketer, RIP. The best all-arounder we ever created. It was wonderful to play with you.
Post-retirement Streak coached Bangladesh while also serving as the bowling coach for Kolkata Knight Riders, winners of the Indian Premier League twice.
After acknowledging violations of the anti-corruption code of the International Cricket Council in 2021, he was given an eight-year suspension from the sport. He acknowledged “full responsibility” for his deeds but maintained that he had never attempted to manipulate a match.
Sean Williams, the captain of Zimbabwe’s test team, said Streak left “a legacy for us to live up to.”
Williams remarked, “There are no words to express what you and your family have done for mine and many others.
“I will miss you.” We adore you very much. Peace be with you, Streaky.
