Arshad Nadeem, the gold winner at the Commonwealth Games (CWG), qualified for both the Budapest World Athletics Championship final and the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris on Friday.
Arshad Nadeem qualifies Athletics Final: In his first attempt, Arshad Nadeem launched his javelin 70.63 metres into the air to begin the qualifying round of the javelin throw competition. In his second attempt, he launched it 81.53 metres into the air.
While the standard for the Paris Olympics was 85.50 metres, the automatic qualifying mark for the World Athletics Championship final was 83 metres.
With an astonishing 86.79-meter throw on his third try, Arshad Nadeem broke both records and so qualified for both competitions.
With an 88.77-meter throw on his first attempt, Neeraj Chopra, his Indian counterpart, also qualified for the World Athletics Championship final and the Paris Olympics.
They will now compete against one another on August 27 in the World Athletic Championship final.
Neeraj Chopra and Arshad Nadeem discussed the match before Arshad Nadeem left for Budapest to take part in the competition.
“He anticipated that it would be a competitive match in World Athletics with Neeraj Chopra,” he commented.
Additionally, he provided an update on his physical condition and thanked Major General (Rtd) Muhammad Akram Sahi, President of the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP), for his assistance while he was recovering from his injuries.
Arshad Nadeem declared, “I am physically healthy and will attempt to do well. “I worked really hard to get fit for the event,”
He continued, “I am grateful to Federation President General Akram Sahi for his support to me in trying times.
Arshad Nadeem was disqualified from the Asian Athletics Championship owing to a left knee injury, but the medical board earlier this month cleared him to compete in the World Athletics Championship.
