Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) resolved on Sunday to stage a nationwide strike on September 2 in protest of the rise in electricity costs amid growing public uproar.

In a statement, JI spokeswoman Qaiser Shareef announced the formation of committees for a nationwide protest against escalating electricity costs on September 2.

The spokesperson stated that Sirajul Haque will meet with trade associations tomorrow and that everyone in the nation will take part in the strike. He also praised businessmen and dealers for their support of the strike.

Qaiser Shareef added that there will be five more days of nonviolent demonstration against inflation.

Nationwide Protests

Protests against the exorbitant electricity prices have spread across the entire nation, from Karachi to Khyber, and some protests are now turning violent.

People in Karachi demonstrated against excessive bills that K-Electric, the city’s only electricity provider, gave out. People expressed their displeasure that their bills exceeded their salaries.

However, A big number of people demonstrated in Peshawar. People declare that they will not remain silent in the face of this “injustice.” Additionally, traders from Lahore Square and Ganj Bazaar set fire to power bills to document their protest.

Additionally, At Committee Chowk in Rawalpindi, protesters gathered and burned bills as they chanted for the government to end the imposition of power charges.

Furthermore, Protesters in Gujranwala besieged the Gujranwala Electric Power Company office in an effort to draw attention to the high cost of electricity.

Other cities, such as Narowal, Attock, Sargodha, and Haripur, also saw demonstrations against excessive electricity costs.
