Cypher case: Shah Mahmood Qureshi handed over to FIA

In the Cypher case, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) took custody of Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), for a two-day incarceration on Monday.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi handed over to FIA: The special court, presided over by Judge Abu Al-Hasanat Muhammad Zul-Qarnain, heard the Cypher case under the Official Secrets Act, according to the details.

Following the completion of the three-day physical remand, authorities brought Shah Mahmood Qureshi before the court. He was accompanied by PTI attorneys Babar Awan and Shaheen Shafi as well as FIA special prosecutor Zuafar Naqvi.

In court, the FIA asked for an extra five days of physical detention for Shah Mahmood Qureshi; the special court reserved judgement on the motion.

The Special Court in the Cypher case later extended Shah Mahmood’s physical detention by an additional two days. Judge Abu Al-Hasanat Zul-Qarnain, under the Official Secrets Act, handed him over to the FIA for a two-day physical detention.

Both the PTI vice chairman and chief faced charges of deliberately omitting a copy of the diplomatic cypher.

They filed the first information report (FIR) under the Official Secrets Act on August 15 in response to the complaint made by the Home Secretary.
