In Islamabad, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended the sentencing of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman in the Toshakhana case on Tuesday.

Imran’s sentence suspended in Toshakhana: The IHC made public the brief decision it had reserved a day earlier ordering the authorities to grant the PTI leader bail.

Following the conclusion of the arguments from both sides, a division bench led by IHC Chief Justice Aamir Farooq and composed of Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri issued the short order.

Petition

The PTI Chairman appealed to the Islamabad High Court the trial court’s decision to terminate his right to a defence in the Toshakhana case.

The petitioner begged the high court to nullify the trial court’s ruling and reinstate his right to an attorney in the case. The PTI chief also asked the court to hear his case right away.

Toshakhana’s decision

The District and Sessions Court sentenced the PTI chairman to a three-year prison term in the Toshakhana criminal case on August 5.

The court found the PTI head guilty and imposed a fine of Rs 100,000. Additionally, the court disqualified the former prime minister from holding public office for a duration of five years.

“The court, in its verdict, pronounced the accused guilty of involvement in corrupt behavior and sentenced the PTI chairman to three years in prison.”

Imran Khan “is found guilty of corrupt practises” and “deliberately submitted fake details [of Toshakhana gifts] to the ECP,” he claimed.

“The court additionally declared that the former prime minister would face a five-year disqualification from holding public office.”
