Yasir Hussain defends ‘Hadsa’ makers, amidst PEMRA ban

The drama series “Hadsa” and PEMRA’s subsequent ban on it have recently drawn attention among the Pakistani entertainment sector.

Yasir Hussain defends ‘Hadsa’ makers: Actor Yasir Hussain has posted a message on his Instagram Stories in support of the show’s creators, Wajahat Rauf and Shazia Wajahat, during this upheaval.

Yasir voiced his support for his lifelong pals in a touching Instagram post by noting, “Wajahat and Shazia are my very old friends. They do not work for ratings, I can state that with certainty. Since these folks had hearts, they wouldn’t hurt them.

Yasir went on to describe the scenario in more detail, highlighting the fact that it is inappropriate to undermine someone’s labour of love during these trying circumstances. He argued that writing a play and getting PEMRA approval would be more beneficial than having to cope with a production restriction.

Yasir’s defence of the “Hadsa” writers comes amid an intense debate over the drama series. Before PEMRA banned the show, it had received a lot of attention. It was alleged that it was influenced by the 2020 motorway rape case, although lead actor Hadiqa Kiani and the showrunners refuted this. However, social media exploded in anger when a journalist described how the incident’s victim felt after seeing the episode.

In response to complaints from the public, PEMRA evaluated the drama series. “Hadsa’s” plot was “highly inappropriate, disturbing, and not portraying the true picture of Pakistani society,” according to the regulatory board.

PEMRA further raised worries that depicting such a horrendous incident will traumatise the unlucky victim and damage Pakistan’s reputation abroad.

The director of “Hadsa,” Wajahat Rauf, made it clear that the drama was not based on the motorway incident. He clarified that every aspect of the show, including the characters, family dynamics, police investigation, motive, and trial, was made up.

The incident’s only commonality was that it happened on a highway.
He stressed that the drama’s intention was to raise awareness of such horrible atrocities, not to be insensitive.

Yasir Hussain’s defence of the show’s makers as the controversy develops sheds light on the difficulties and sensitivity associated with depicting actual events in fictional dramas.
