Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the president of Ukraine, claimed on Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin was responsible for the killing of mercenary commander Yevgeny Prigozhin, who perished in a mysterious plane accident last month along with his senior lieutenants.
Zelenskiy says Putin killed mercenary boss: Zelenskiy made the remark in passing at a conference in Kyiv when questioned about the Russian president; he did not provide any proof to substantiate his allegation.
Zelenskiy stated, “The fact that he killed Prigozhin also testifies to his rationality, and about the fact that he is weak. At least, that is the information we all have, not any other type.
The Kremlin will investigate all potential causes of the crash, including any potential wrongdoing. The Kremlin has categorically denounced the claim that Putin ordered the killing of Prigozhin and his men as an “absolute lie.”
This summer in Russia, Prigozhin led the most significant challenge to Putin’s control since he assumed power in 1999. The head of the Kremlin called it “treason” and a “stab in the back” and accused its writers of it.
In the 23 years that Putin has been in power, many of his detractors have either narrowly avoided death or perished in mysterious circumstances.
