Shahnawaz Dahani and Zaman Khan have been appointed as reserve pacers for the Asia Cup 2023, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Monday.

Pakistan call two back up pacers: According to a statement released by the PCB, they have called up Shahnawaz Dahani and Zaman Khan as backup pacers after Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah suffered injuries during the match against India.

The statement said, “This is only a precautionary measure keeping in mind the players’ fitness and well-being ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup next month.”

The team’s medical staff will continue to monitor Haris and Naseem, according to the statement.

“The team management will only ask for a replacement from the ACC technical committee if they rule out Naseem or Haris for the upcoming week,” concludes the statement.

When officials announced that fast bowler Haris Rauf had a strain and would not continue, it dealt Pakistan a shock. Later, Naseem Shah, another quick, left as well, complaining of hand pain.

It is important to note that on Monday’s reserve day of the Asia Cup 2023’s Super Four, Virat Kohli and returning KL Rahul both scored undefeated hundreds to lead India to a 228-run victory over Pakistan.

India reached 356-2, a total they successfully defended after bowling out Pakistan for 128 in the 50-over match in Colombo, thanks to runs from Kohli (122) and Rahul (111).

Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah, two injured bowlers, chose not to bat as Pakistan finished on 128-8 in 32 overs. Kuldeep Yadav, an Indian bowler, produced 5-25.
