Volodymyr Zelenskiy will visit the U.S. Congress the following week. Earlier, a U.S. official had stated that the Ukrainian president will likely meet with U.S. Vice President Biden on Thursday.
Zelenskiy visit US Congress: According to a report from Punchbowl News on Friday, Zelenskiy tentatively scheduled a meeting with Congress for Thursday. The Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal reported that Zelenskiy’s visit to the US Congress was scheduled for Thursday.
It was impossible to reach Zelenskiy’s representatives or congressional leaders for comment right away.
The U.S. official told Reuters on Thursday that Zelenskiy is scheduled to travel to Washington the following week after visiting New York for the U.N. General Assembly conference.
His visit coincides with Democratic Vice President Joe Biden’s calls on American legislators to allocate an additional $24 billion for Ukraine and other foreign needs in light of Russia’s continued aggression.
Congress must grant any funds. Although Republicans narrowly control the U.S. House of Representatives and have shown opposition to the new budget request for the Ukraine, Biden’s fellow Democrats still hold sway in the Senate.
