Justice Qazi Faez Isa takes oath as 29th chief justice of Pakistan

Following the retirement of Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Qazi Faez Isa took the oath necessary to become the 29th Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) on Sunday during a ceremony held in the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

Qazi Faez Isa takes oath as chief justice: President Arif Alvi delivered the oath of office to him. Senators, ambassadors from other countries, senior military officers, interim federal ministries, and caretaker prime minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar were present during the ceremony.

As chief justice, Justice Isa will hold office through October 25, 2024.

Justice Isa, who is he?

On October 26, 1959, Justice Qazi Faez Isa was born in Quetta. His father, the late Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s close friend and key figure in the Pakistan Movement, Qazi Mohammad Isa, was the father of the young Isa.

After completing his primary education in Quetta, Justice Isa attended the Karachi Grammar School to pursue his O and A levels. After that, he relocated to London to attend the Inns of Court School of Law to finish his legal studies and pass the bar exam.

On January 30, 1985, the new CJP began serving on the Balochistan High Court. In March 1998, he joined the Supreme Court’s bar. On November 3, 2007, the Pervez Musharraf administration declared a state of emergency. Justice Isa made the decision not to show up before the justices who took the Provisional Constitution Order (PCO) oath.

On August 5, 2009, the government appointed Justice Isa as a judge to the Balochistan High Court.

For more than 27 years, he has represented clients before the Federal Shariat Court, the Supreme Court of Pakistan, and the High Courts of Pakistan. Further, He joined the Sindh High Court Bar Association, the Balochistan High Court Bar Association, and the Pakistan Supreme Court Bar Association as a Life Member.
