The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has granted a temporary broadcast license to the TV series “Hadsa,” which depicts a rape survivor’s experience, subject to the omission of a contentious sequence from the fifth episode.
Islamabad High Court Lifts Ban on ‘Hadsa’: “The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) banned the serial previously after receiving complaints that it was inspire by the 2020 motorway gang rape event, a claim that the show’s creators have rejected.” PEMRA justified its position at the same time by pointing to the show’s offensive material and its jurisdiction under the PEMRA Ordinance.
The IHC, following the Constitution’s requirement for a hearing, lifted the suspension and demanded confirmation that the producers, who claimed the contentious scene followed Pakistani societal norms, wouldn’t show it.
