Pakistan wants peaceful, cooperative ties with India: FM Jilani

Pakistan’s interim foreign minister, Jalil Abbas Jilani, relations with India should be cordial and peaceful.

Pakistan wants peaceful ties with India: He claimed that Pakistan’s good outreach and peace overtures, notably the opening of the Kartarpur corridor for visa-free visits from the Indian Sikh community, have been met with hostility when speaking at the Asia Society conference in New York.

The caretaker FM claimed that “India’s illegal actions in India-occupied Jammu Kashmir and the heinous human rights violations against innocent Kashmiris by Indian security forces have further deteriorated relations between the two countries.”

Jilani continued that “worsening religious extremism” in India, particularly towards Muslims, has made matters more difficult.

The two nations are moving further away from the goals of regional peace and stability as a result of India’s aggressiveness and anti-Pakistan political theatre.

Chinese relations

Regarding China, the FM stated that Pakistan’s relations with its neighbour are “anchored in strong trade and economic ties” and are “historical in nature.”

China is Pakistan’s largest commercial partner and a significant investor, particularly in the energy and infrastructure industries.

He went on to say, “I must emphasise that Pakistan’s relations with China are not a zero-sum game and not at the expense of our connections with any other country, least of all with the United States.

Regarding Ukraine

Jilani stated that Pakistan’s stance on Ukraine was based on its respect for the UN’s ideals, territorial integrity, and sovereignty, as well as its belief in peaceful conflict resolution.

He declared, “We will keep playing a positive role to assist put an end to the war and lessen the suffering of the Ukrainian people.

In order for the people of “both Russia and Ukraine to enjoy its dividends,” he hoped that peace would eventually reign.

Afghanistan is at stake

According to the interim minister, Pakistan has the most interest in an Afghanistan that enjoys peace both within its borders and with its regional and international allies.

This goal is at the core of our efforts to communicate with the Afghan interim administration directly and work with the international community on Afghanistan, according to Jilani.

He continued, “We also share the concern of the international community on the state of human rights in Afghanistan, particularly issues pertaining to women’s rights, girls’ education, and women’s work.

Jilani stressed that Pakistan deplored terrorism in all of its manifestations, including state terrorism and state-sponsored brutality against religious minorities.

“Pakistan rejects any attempt to… link the issue of terrorism to specific nations, communities, regions, or religions.”

“The entire world community is the victim, and we must work as one to eliminate this threat.
