A special court extended Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s judicial remand in the cypher case until October 10, according to News. Qureshi is the vice chairman and chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
PTI chairman and Qureshi’s remand extended: Imran Khan’s judicial remand was extended in the matter of the missing cypher, a top-secret government document, by Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain, who heard the case at the Attock District Jail under the Official Secrets Act 2023.
The court ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to file a challan in the case soon during the hearing.
Following approval by the Law Ministry and amid security worries from the Interior Ministry, the case was heard at the Attock Jail.
Imran Khan, the chairman of the PTI, was found guilty in the Toshakhana case and sentenced to prison on August 5. The IHC had postponed his punishment as of August 29.
Despite IHC orders, Imran is still detained at Attock Jail.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan was not transferred to Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail until late on Monday, despite orders from the Islamabad High Court, mostly because of security considerations.
The former prime minister was allegedly relocated to the Adiala Jail, according to one of his solicitors, which led to confusion on social media.
Khan has not yet been transferred to Adiala jail, according to the jail’s management, which denied the assertion.
Case cypher
The Official Secrets Act’s first information report (FIR) was filed on August 15. In response to the Home Secretary’s complaint, it was recorded.
The names of former principal secretary Azam Khan and former planning minister Asad Umar were also listed in the report, along with former prime minister Imran Khan and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
Action would reportedly be taken against Azam Khan and Asad Umar as well after the authorities determined that they were also involved in utilising the secret documents improperly.
According to the FIR, the former foreign minister and prime minister fabricated information on the diplomatic cypher. It continued, “A conspiracy was started to use the cipher’s information for evil ends. It went on to say that the state’s interests were harmed by the former premier and senior diplomat.
According to the report, Azam Khan, the previous prime minister’s principal secretary, was directed to “manipulate the contents of cypher” by the former prime minister. “The former premier kept the copy of the diplomatic cypher that was sent to the PM office on purpose,” the statement continued.
