On Wednesday, a special court issued an arrest warrant for Azam Swati, the head of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and a former federal minister, in connection with a controversial tweet.

Azam Swati’s arrest warrant issued: Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to arrest Azam Swati and present him before the court.

The judge issued an arrest warrant for Swati because he kept skipping court appearances in the case.

The senator applied for post-arrest bail at Islamabad High Court (IHC) after Special Judge Central Azam Khan rejected his request and said that he had “committed the same offence twice.”

On January 2, the IHC granted the senator bail in exchange for a Rs 200,000 bond.

It is important to recall that on November 27 of last year, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) detained Senator Azam Swati of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in connection with a case involving contentious tweets directed against public figures.

A three-person F.I.A. squad arrested the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader from his farmhouse in Chak Shahzad, Islamabad, as a result of his controversial tweets criticising the government.
