Temba Bavuma, captain of South Africa, will not play in the ICC World Cup 2023’s exhibition games against Afghanistan and New Zealand because he must return home for personal reasons.
Bavuma miss warm-up matches: In Bavuma’s place, Aiden Markram will represent South Africa and captain them in the exhibition matches against Afghanistan and New Zealand on September 29 and October 2, respectively. At Thiruvananthapuram’s Greenfield International Stadium, both games will be held.
“Temba Bavuma is expect to join the group ahead of South Africa’s ICC World Cup 2023 opener against Sri Lanka on October 7 at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.”
Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala, two seasoned fast bowlers, are also absent from South Africa because they were disqualified from the ICC World Cup 2023 for failing a fitness test. All-arounder Andile Phehlukwayo and fast bowler Lizaad Williams took their place.
Both pace bowlers participated in the home ODI series triumph over Australia and South Africa nominated them to the original 15-person World Cup 2023 roster.
“In the third ODI, Sisanda Magala manage to take only one wicket in four overs before being rule out due to discomfort in his previously injured knee, while Anrich Nortje play in only one match before retiring with a back injury after bowling five overs, but both players were unable to contribute to the series win.”
