India unveiled its final World Cup roster on Thursday, replacing the injured Axar Patel with Ravichandran Ashwin.

Ashwin replaces Axar in India’s squad: As a result of his outstanding performance in the India-Australia series, Ravichandran Ashwin’s chances of making the World Cup roster enhanced. Axar Patel sustained an injury during the 2023 Asia Cup, leading to his exclusion from the India-Australia team.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s participation comes after supporters clamoured for his inclusion in India’s World Cup squad. Axar Patel had shown the capacity to score some extra runs in the lower order of batting, and Team India was keen to have an all-rounder at number 8. However, the supporters emphasised that Ravichandran Ashwin also possesses the explosive batting abilities that he has often demonstrated.

“Axar Patel was injured during India’s Asia Cup Super Four match against Bangladesh, straining his left quadriceps. He was unable to heal in time for the World Cup. As a result, the all-rounder who bowls spin missed the Asia Cup championship match, according to an official statement from the ICC.

According to the press statement, they have appointed veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin as his replacement. Ashwin impressed on his return to ODI cricket in the recently finished series against Australia, taking four wickets in two games.
