President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he was meeting with Ukrainian soldiers close to the eastern front line, where Russian forces have been exerting pressure on the Ukrainian army in newly retaken territory.
Zelensky visiting eastern frontline: Against Russian positions in the south and east, Ukraine started a much-anticipated counteroffensive, but progress has been slow and Russian forces are now retaliating in the north-east.
In a post on social media, Zelensky stated, “Today we are visiting our battalions doing combat tasks in one of the hot regions (of the frontline) — Kupiansk-Lyman.
Camera footage captured Zelensky conversing with service members and signing a flag representing one of the battalions.
In his statement, Zelensky claimed that he had “discussed the operational situation on the battlefield, current issues, and needs with commanders of brigades and battalions.”
The Ukrainian president added that he had examined armaments imported from outside, such as Leopard 2 tanks, for which Kyiv had pressed its partners before obtaining them this year.
In September 2022, Ukrainian forces seized the town of Kupiansk and the neighbouring regions in Kharkiv’s northeast.
Moscow, however, has since retreated into the area, compelling Ukraine to order the evacuation of civilians.
Meanwhile, the commander of the Ukrainian ground forces claimed that his troops were “moving forward in the east and capturing Russians” in that region of the nation.
Oleksandr Syrskiy, the officer, is in charge of leading Ukraine’s defence of the war-torn city of Bakhmut, which Russia conquered in May.
Russian and Ukrainian soldiers are also engaged in combat over control of Russia’s partially seized Kherson region in the south.
According to Oleksandr Prokudin, the regional prosecutor, shelling on areas of the Kherson region under Ukrainian administration resulted in one death and four injuries.
